DESCRIPTION:Come to the London Action Resource Centre (LARC)\, 61 Fieldgate Street E1 1ES\, for a monthly social and fundraiser. From 8pm until midnight you can meet up with other anarchists for a chill time to chat\, gripe\, and possibly even plot. The Red and Black Club is last Friday of the month. We do not have an alcohol license so none will be sold in LARC\, but feel free to bring your own booze. Suggested donation of £10 on the door\, but no one will be turned away for lack of money. Half of this will go to LARC to keep the space running and half will got a new zine called Anarchy which we hope to distribute for free.

SUMMARY:anarkita #4
DESCRIPTION:What does community and solidarity look like in parenthood/childhood?   How\, as parents/carers\, do we practice solidarity with children in an adult-centric society? In times of increasing authoritarianism\, how do we challenge the language of domination and separation\, and create together with children a different language? How do we sustain our radicality and best channel rage while parenting? How do we avoid burnout and resist capitalist pressures (e.g. metrics and mandates of success\, productivity\, and happiness)? – anarkita is an invitation to children\, parents and caregivers (in any body) to come together\, to share and explore experiences of parenthood/childhood\, identify common needs/struggles\, and build a shared understanding/practice of solidarity. We gather the last Saturday of every month from 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM (next on Sat 28th March) at Mother House Studios (47 Slaithwaite Road\, SE13 6DJ).

SUMMARY:S.A.F.E. Book Club Fundraiser (Read Books and Fund Abortions)
DESCRIPTION:To mark the Global Day to Destigmatise Abortions on 28 March\, Supporting Abortions for Everyone (S.A.F.E.) is partnering with the iconic Feminist Library for a special one-off book club fundraiser! https://www.outsavvy.com/event/33372/safe-fundraiser-the-feminist-library   We’ll be reading My Notorious Life by Kate Manning. The book is inspired by the true history of an infamous female physician and abortionist who was once called “the Wickedest Woman in New York” (Ann Trow Lohman\, better known as Madame Restell). It’s a mystery\, a family saga\, a love story\, and an exquisitely detailed portrait of 19th century America. \nThe evening is a space to discuss the book\, explore The Feminist Library’s incredible collection\, rave about abortion and raise vital funds for those being failed by healthcare systems across Europe. \nTickets are available on a sliding scale. There is also the option to donate if you can’t attend\, but still want to support 💌

SUMMARY:Brockley Anarchist Reading Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we begin our discussion of James C. Scott’s The Art of Not Being Governed: An Anarchist History of Upland Southeast Asia.   The Art of Not Being Governed examines the historical reality of Zomia\, the vast\, mountainous region of Southeast Asia\, focusing on how its inhabitants deliberately evaded state control for over two millennia. Scott explores the creation of stateless societies through mobile agriculture\, fluid identities\, and physical geography. The text invites us to look at a massive historical example of state evasion and to consider the possibilities of self-governance in the face of empires and state-making.   We’ll be exploring how these historical practices of autonomy and resistance can inform our own political imagination today. All are welcome! Whether you are a lifelong anarchist or just beginning your journey\, join us to read\, discuss\, and imagine a freer world together.

SUMMARY:IPA Community Prepardness Meeting
DESCRIPTION:“we are already situated within the collapse of civilisation. To go on waiting is madness”\, \nIn the two decades since the Invisible Committee wrote these words\, the situation has only gotten worse. financial crisis\, pandemic\, genocide\, war – we don’t need to list everything because we’ve been struggling through it together. Resistance has been met by fierce repression as well as apathy in the absence of any positive vision of the future. Rather than the collapse of civilisation in the abstract we increasingly find ourselves in the suffocating conditions of impending extinction. The promise of insurrection has given way to the reality of apocalypse. If we are to navigate this apocalypse\, we will have to follow another piece of advice from the Invisible Committee and find each other. We are organising this series of meetings\, discussions and workshops – on everything from what food to keep at home to how to set up a long range radio (LORA) network – in order to do just that. \nThis thursday at the TRESPASS event space we will be discussing the motivation behind this series and starting conversations about what we and people around the world are doing to make themselves and their communities more resilient to crises. If you have any trouble finding the space call us on +447438106417.

SUMMARY:The Poetics of Infrastructure.
DESCRIPTION:https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1986345886016/preview?_gl=1*tmq8*_up*MQ..*_ga*ODk3ODk2MTE3LjE3NzUwNjY4ODI.*_ga_TQVES5V6SH*czE3NzUwNjY4ODIkbzEkZzAkdDE3NzUwNjY4ODIkajYwJGwwJGgw \nThis April\, we at the Feminist Library are delighted to host the opening session of “The Poethics of Infrastructure.” With @threadbarecollective. \nThreadbare Collective is an art-curatorial collective based in SE London\, focusing on architecture\, rest and the body. They were recently in residence at Goldsmiths CCA 24/25 where they ran a monthly programme of workshops and a performance night as part of Deptford X. \nFor their first reading group\, “Reading Maps\,” They will gather us together around texts that approach the practise of cartography not as a tool for fixing territories\, but as a speculative and imaginative practice. They’ll read excerpts from The Word for World: The Maps of Ursula K. Le Guin (Architectural Association)\, placing the work of Ursula K. Le Guin in conversation with Madeleine de Scudéry’s Carte de Tendre from her novel Clélie (1654–61)\, an early and evocative example of sentimental cartography. \nAcross these invented and reimagined geographies\, mapping will be explored as porous\, collaborative\, and shaped by story\, feeling\, and relation. Together\, maps will be though through as invitations; to wander\, to misread\, and to redraw. \nWe invite you to join us in considering how worlds are mapped into being\, and how cartography might be reimagined to trace spaces of care\, connection\, and collective imagination. \nAll are welcome.

SUMMARY:Reading Group 20 – How Nonviolence Protects The State
DESCRIPTION:nce Protects The State For our twentieth reading group we will be reading How Nonviolence Protects The State by Peter Gelderloos. From the blurb: “Since the civil rights era\, the doctrine of nonviolence has enjoyed near-universal acceptance by the US Left. Today protest is often shaped by cooperation with state authorities–even organizers of rallies against police brutality apply for police permits\, and anti-imperialists usually stop short of supporting self-defense and armed resistance. How Nonviolence Protects the State challenges the belief that nonviolence is the only way to fight for a better world. In a call bound to stir controversy and lively debate\, Peter Gelderloos invites activists to consider diverse tactics\, passionately arguing that exclusive nonviolence often acts to reinforce the same structures of oppression that activists seek to overthrow.” \nA free version of How Nonviolence Protects The State can be found at the Anarchist Library here and our friends at Freedom Press here have offered a 10% discount on physical copies for the reading group. Just quote “London SolFed Reading Group” or pop into Freedom for your general radical book buying needs. The reading group will be meeting on Tuesday the 28th of April\, 19:00\, at Freedom Bookshop\, 84b Whitechapel High St\, London E1 7QX. You are welcome to come and join in the discussion even if you have not finished the reading.

SUMMARY:1st of May: The Red in the Green – Screening\, free pamphlet and collective reading
DESCRIPTION:The Red in the Green will mark the 1st of May\, International Workers’ Day. Celebrating the convergence of worker and environmental organising\, the evening will begin with a film screening and discussion (Who bombed Judi Bari?\, 2012\, 92 mins) and conclude with a collective reading of excerpts from Peter Linebaugh’s pamphlet The incomplete\, true\, authentic and wonderful history of May Day. There will also be time to explore some of our growing ecological direct-action archival collection. \nThe incomplete\, true\, authentic and wonderful history of May Day \nAs has become customary\, we will collectively read excerpts from Peter Linebaugh’s The incomplete\, true\, authentic and wonderful history of May Day to celebrate the convergence of labour struggles and ecological direct action\, with some free copies of the text available on the day. \nRead The incomplete\, true\, authentic and wonderful history of May Day here \nWho bombed Judi Bari? (Mary Liz Thomson\, 2012) – 92 mins \nIn 1990\, two prominent Earth First! activists\, Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney\, were car bombed in Oakland\, California. They are then immediately investigated by the FBI for bombing themselves. Who bombed Judi Bari? Follows the subsequent lawsuit against the FBI\, the complex history of Earth First!\, the loggers and the controversy of tree spiking. Bari worked tirelessly to organise with workers in the logging industry in the American Pacific North West. Lobbying against the controversial tactic of tree spiking (inserting metal into trees to damage the saws of loggers) she aimed instead to unite workers in the extractive industry with environmentalists. \nWe are very pleased to have Andrew working as the researcher in residence for the next 2 years on the global economy\, not global ecology archives. Andrew will lead a discussion on some of the important but often ill-remembered connections and collaborations between workers\, union organisers and the ecological movement from our archival holdings. \nWorkers of the Earth\, Unite!
