The General Strike in Southwark – a history walk with MayDay Rooms and Past tense

Come to Elephant and Castle to learn about the 1926 General Strike in Southwark.

A FREE radical history walk in collaboration with Past Tense around the Elephant & Castle.

100 years on from the 1926 General Strike, we will reflect on how trade unionists organised the strike on the ground in this important area of South London. How was the strike spread? Who was involved? And how did the state, the Council and the police respond?

We will discuss mass picketing, workers’ autonomy, riots, the burning of buses and police repression.
