anarkita #6

What does community and solidarity look like in parenthood/childhood? How do we sustain our radicality and best channel rage while parenting? How do we avoid burnout and resist capitalist pressures (e.g. metrics and mandates of success, productivity, and happiness)? How, as parents/carers, do we practice solidarity with children in an adult-centric society?

“Being a parent is the most capitalist job, a friend told me recently when I complained that choosing a school, or a piano class, seems like investing in shares. Unless you remain critical and aligned with your values… But how hard is that under so many pressures?! Being a parent can also be the most political job. We are constantly taking political decisions/action, in our relation to food, the environment, plastic toys, friendship, death…” says Anca.

🌈 Every last Saturday of the month, some of us meet as anarkita to figure out how to raise our kids against and beyond what bell hooks called the imperialist, white-supremacist, capitalist cis-normative patriarchy.
🌱 Join us on our next gathering this coming Saturday, 30 May, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Mother House Studios: Lewisham, 47 Slaithwaite Road, SE13 6DJ –  London.
